Solar act now

Around this time last year (April 2010) many people were deciding if they should jump in and take advantage of solar pannels subsidised by the Australian Government. many systems of around 1kw were being offered for free through to a couple of thousand dollars. At the time most states had very good tarrif feed in schemes expecially the ACT who paid on gross power. NSW for instance was offering 60c per kwh.
Suddenly the scheme with very short notice was withdrawn and many people who procastinated missed out.
It was replaced by a new scheme where good subsidies existed for for systems up to 1.5kw.
Since then it became evident that the feed in tarrifs were capped by the states once certain capcities had been met. In NSW the feed in tarrif was reduced to 20c kwh and it became clear that other states would follow once they hit their capacity limits.
If you are still deciding what to do be warned that the scheme in place now where systems are available between $2000 and $4000 for an installed 1.5kw system will end soon. The mulitpler used for the subsidy will reduce from 5 times to 4 times. which in effect will add at least $1500 to new systems after the cut of time mid year. if you are in The ACT or most of the other states you can still lock into good feed in tarrifs.
The other threat is a possible change in Government and policy changes.
My advice act now, many of the companies are offering low deposit easy finance as well. if it is anything like last year there will be a last minute rush and people will miss out.
be carefull about the system you choose especially when it comes to pannel quality, the experience of the installers and the type of inverter used. Check to see if yuor inverter has the ability to have extra panels added to the system latter and reviews on the reliability of the inverter.
Kind Regards
Mark
